It's been a while. Since the last post I'd finished that semester, had most of my winter break, went to Costa Rica and started making my own custom hats. I'll hopefully scan some of the journal entries from Costa Rica, but for now I'll post pictures of Costa Rica, and maybe my hats.

Too little junk in the trunk
got my vials in the mail today, they are sooooo much tinier than i expected so i might have to go find some more. and my luggage trunk is going to seem huge compared to those vials so it's more jars and i might do the quilt thing also instead of sleeping. oh and i'm starting to sneeze uncontrollably, but i'm still finished up the main part of the trunk, right now i'm just lining the outside with wood. But i have to go to Home Depot again to buy some more molding. Trying to figure out what to do with the tiny vials. I've spent so much money on this art project already, but i'm having fun making it.
This is basically how i feel with finals right now and this art project.

This time of year
This time of year I wish I were back in Cambodia. Something about the colors and the feel of being there and walking around Phenom Pehn made me feel alive. It's probably been the constant stress, and the large work load that makes me miss it. Wish I was going there this winter break like last winter break, but Costa Rica with the family will distract for those 10 days. Here are some photos from last year.

I was a thrift store, ikea kind of day
Woke up early today to a call from the other co-captain of the CSULB Ultimate Frisbee team talking about getting a bid into a Las Vegas Tournament we're planning on play in in February. Due to budget cuts, my painting class was canceled today, but for sake of productivity I got up and hit the thrift stores. For painting we're doing our final project on the subject of either social or political issues in basically a free composition, or the theme of paradise lost or found in traditional painting methods. I had finally decided on my topic, which will be global warming and tying in the idea of green living. So in order to get started on my project, i decided to go look for items in thrift stores to help inspire or use in my project. I won't post my idea yet, just in case it changes but I'll try to document my progress. So i went to about 4 thrift stores found somethings for my project, and some stuff that was just fun (aka my worlds best grandpa! trucker hat). After driving around to the different thrift stores I knew of in my area, I went to ikea to purchase a bookshelf we needed for our patio, and happened to pick up a few extra things for the beginnings of my art room. Plans for tomorrow: homework, start building a.) a part of my art final and b.) my art easel. We'll see how that goes, but my day was great, I got to drive home on the 405 north in traffic with my ikea hot dog and root bear, all in a days work.

Beat Poetry: Lew Welch
Read this in my Intermediate Painting class with Tom Krumpak
The Basic Con by Lew Welch.
Those who can’t find anything to live for,
always invent something to die for.
Then they want the rest of us to die for it, too.
Ikeno Taiga (1723-76)
Sitting in my Introduction to Asian Art: Later Traditions class and it's starting to get a bit more interesting, talking about Ikeno Taiga, who had some sort of drinking game in his Orchard Pavilion where they floated wine down a river and a narrator of some sorts would call out a name of a guest and the guest would have to write a poem before the drink arrived down the river. Once the wine came to the guest they would have to read the poem they wrote, if it did not meet the expectations of the host, then they would have to drink. Yum. Thank you Ikeno Taiga.
Obession with House Numbers

Recently we have been remodeling the outside of our house (re-stuccoing, new windows, new paint job), being the art major in our house, most of the aesthetic qualities of the house are being left to me. My mom has asked me to design a house number for our home, so I did some research, and started to fall in love with house numbers. I've always loved text and numbers but I had never realized how much i love house numbers till now. Most of the numbers i decided on were on the more sleek modern side. So rather than making the numbers I think we'll order some, but here are some of the number that plucked my heart strings.
